What the HELL is my original username???

I foolishly cleaned out my cookies before verifying my username and password...and couldn't get back in here again.

This is going to sound really, really stupid, but...does anyone remember my username? I'm Derek Mathias, I own a supercharged Valkyrie in addition to a 2000 XX, had a friend who crashed my XX (but it got better), I have only been posting a few times in the past few months, and the last time I posted it was describing my problem with tank-slapping vibration at high speed. Ring any bells? I THINK the username was "Underling" but I have so many accounts I'm not sure. However, Underling isn't working. Hmmm. Can you spell amnesia?

Anyway, as for the tank-slapping problem, it turns out Hare Racing set the sag on my XX's new Racetech fork kit to 2.5". Ack! No wonder behavior was screwed up! Once they fixed that, high speed vibe went away...and was replaced by a very specific slow wobble only when decelerating between 50 and 45 mph. Nothing serious, just annoying.

Sick of it all, I took my XX to Lindeman Engineering, supposedly one of the best suspension companies in the US. They took almost twice as long as they'd quoted, ripped out and replaced the Racetechs as being entirely inadequate pieces of crap with a too-weak spring, adjusted the Penske shock which was supposedly 10 cm longer than the stock shock, and basically set me up with a killer suspension adjustment for $750. Felt great as I rode off...until I decelerated between 50 and 45 mph and got the EXACT SAME wobble. Ack!

Well, to their credit, they said they'd do their best to get it right, and refund my $ if they can't get it right.

Well, hopefully perfection is the journey, not the goal, or else I'm screwed. ;-)

Derek, the forum has been rebuilt since you visited. No record was saved. Your username was underling or underlings, as I recall. You will need to re-register that name if you want it. PM or email with any questions....good to see you on the board.

Oh, cool, that explains it. Honey, you can put back the alzheimers medicine, I'm okay!

supercharged Valkyrie

How does that baby run? :bike:

Well, it has about 130 rwhp and about the same torque. People assume it's a scary monster to ride, but the power is perfectly linear and smooth (although it's a touch fluffy at the bottom of the rev range, I think because the fuel no longer shoots directly from the carbs to the cylinders but has to travel from a single carb way up under the tank). Anyone could handle it. The XX will spank it, no question. But until you hit the twisties, the supercharged Valk isn't badly outclassed (and even then it does better than most cruisers). It can eat 600cc sportbikes for breakfast. No danger of wheelies, just remember to shift! Harleys are just SO fun to chew up because although they typically ignore sport bikes (they know they can't win), they see a cruiser and think they can spank it. Even supercharged, a Harley is no match, even when I ride two-up. The shock on their faces is...priceless!

Mileage sucks, averaging 22 mpg (with occasional forays down to 18 mpg, and never exceeding 28 mpg), at least the way I ride. You play, you pay. Great for long trips otherwise. Great wind protection and comfy. A bit cold-blooded on cold mornings, again due to the distant carb.

But it's for sale. I can't justify two bikes--even commuting I still don't break 3,000 miles per year. Anyone interested? B-)

Your name on the old forum was "Underlings", and your username on the first phpBB forum was "Underling".

Both no longer exist in this database, so feel free to sign up as either.
