Does the bird benefit from a high output stator without many added accessories?

There might be a small benefit if it charges better than stock at idle, but the rest of the time it's a detriment.

The AGM seem to take it better. I never thought to put a meter on it.

AGM has a higher charge voltage rating, plus being sealed it can cope with a bit more over-voltage.  Once it gets hot enough to vent then it starts going downhill and re-filling one is tricky.

My CBX used to cook batteries.

Back in the day I rode my 78 CB 750 to my brothers, 500 miles just stopping for gas. When I got there the battery was dry.  When I went to come home, I filled it, jumped it with a lamp cord and rode home.

That qualifies as a Macgyver

Honda upped the wattage in 99. Gave the R/R another wire in parallel to shunt the excess current to ground.

I don't have extras so, I won't buy a bigger stator. FWIW, my 98 measured 17+ amps to ground at 5500 rpm.

Only one wire.
