NoOne65
Anyone ever find screws that WONT rust? I have bought several over the years that were suppose to be stainless but after a few years they are totally rusted...Could they be real stainless but the brake fluid corrodes them and thats what I am seeing and not actually rust? XXitanium
I used to live down wind from a coal-fired electrical plant many decades ago. It wreaked havoc on the motorcycle finishes.
superhawk996
There are different grades of stainless and their corrosion resistance varies, but it seems very odd for them to be totally rusted. I still have the factory steel ones and they're in decent shape. Maybe there is something going on with the fluid attacking them, but I dunno why it would. If corrosion were happening I'd expect the stainless to be fine and the aluminum to go to shit. Is other stuff on your bike rusting like the screws are? Tells me you’ve never cleaned the reservoir when changing fluid.

Not those...the two small screws on the top of the reservoir. Mine has been an indoor bike for about 1.5 years now

superhawk996
I'm sure the factory size and style can be bought in stainless, and probably in a few grades of stainless. Maybe not from a bike parts place or by application, but knowing what you need it should be pretty easy to find them made of many different materials. And you can get aftermarket covers with SS screws also, Carlos did.
XXitanium
If you put motor oil on stainless and bake it at about 560° for a couple hours you can get stainless to darken. The longer jou bake, the darker they get. We did that for our maritime coastal salt applications so that the hardware didn't look "like a diamond in a goat's ass" on dark finished windows. SwampNut
China stainless, so who knows how they'd fare outdoors.
