    190 rear

I did try a Pilot Sport 190 in the back of my XX. One of the problem is that the rim is slightly too small and does change the profile of the tire. As a result I was scraping the pegs before I got to the side of the tire. On a 180 you get to use the whole tire. As far as handling goes I am not sure much was changed since the profile was changed because of the rim. I was in no hurry to put a 190 but a shop had a sale on Pilot Sport and I wanted to try one on the XX, the price was very right but they did not have 180 so i went for 190. Chances are that I will not put another one on. Very grippy, nice feel and all but short life for 2 up. I did about 4500 miles.
  2. After riding for about 1500 miles with de linked brakes, I can say that no matter how much better the LBS is compare to my ability for braking, I am keeping it de linked. The feeling at the lever is quite different now but I am not sure I need to change the master cylinder. It is a strange feeling at first because it seems that the lever has no efect and travel is a bit longer. On the opposite, one has to be carefull with the back one. That one can be locked easily. Funny enough or sadly enough, I had to test the my brakes for emergency. A pick up truck loaded with empty pallets started to loose them. I can say that there is enough power on those brakes to stop the bike.
  3. I am completly new to the poser point system. Have no idea how many I am making by delinking. May be I get more because I can not stand a Corbin seat ??? In any case, the operation went well, everything was an easy fit. The bleeding is allways time consuming and tomorow I will riding, sorry posing. Joke apart, the information was just given to compare prices for different kits available. For the rest to each is own. Is it better, could be a long debate. Do I like it better, yes.
  4. It did happen to me a few times when entering a curve, you realise that you are too fast and a natural reflex for me is to apply the back brake gently. With the XX a little over gently does apply the front brake as well which will in return, straighten the bike up. The first time that this happened, I ended up on the other side of the road. After talking to myself for a while, I did swear that one day I would disconnect those brakes. Now is the day.
  5. Benefits: getting rid of a complicated system to bleed, uppgrading brake lines, having seperate control on the brakes. Been bugging me since I bought the bike, finally got around doing it. Some other things were bugging me more I guess, like the suspension. Using the full power of the front calipers, being able to use the rear brake alone. Does not mean that I think i can be better than the system. Question of habit. Ready kit, slight price difference not much, may be 50 to 75 $ cheaper than the kit. Canadian dollars to english pound, you need a lot. I am hoping that I will like the master cylinder, if not, will have to deal with it after. $$$$
  6. Today may be the last time I ride my XX with the LBS. I did receive the lines and the bracket I got made to remove the LBS. Brake lines from Cycles Brakes, 245$ with shipping. 2 lines in the front and 2 lines in the back plus 2 short lines to join the front calipers. Bracket made in a machine shop 185 $ Freedom of using the front brakes alone, priceless. I can't wait to put this on.
  7. I just put a Pilot Sport HPX in the back. They did not have the front so I paired with a Metzeler MEZ3 that I had. Great pair. I do not know how long I will do on the Pilot but it is a really good tires. I feel a lot lighter now. I know that many people would not mix tires but I have allways done that. I just make sure I mix similar profile and quality. A friend of mine did over 10,000 miles on a front Pilot Sport on a 929 RR.
  8. I can not answer that question, my other bike is a Triumph and you can not afford to go that long without checking the valves and adjusting them.
  9. I did my first and the bike first valve check at 30,000 miles. I could not resist any longer. The story is true, those valves are not moving much, all of them were in specs. No more worry for me and the next check will be at 60,000.
  10. The forks are the same working length (to the triples)---You would need to find a creative way to mount the bars---as the extra 1" of fork tube the XX has ISNT there on the 929/954 forks--- I did not measure the RR forks but I am aware that the RC 51 were 1 inch shorter. Match with the bigger diameter of the fork, we can say good bye to the clip on. The solution that I was thinking of is to put handle bars. This is the option that was made with the kit of RC51 forks. It would be a lot less work to machine just handle bar holder than the whole triple tree. I will check the site and consider these options.
  11. Thank you for the info, I just found a triple from a 929 that I can try. Indeed if you have a picture, I am also interested.
  12. I guess I am thinkin that the RC51 forks are the best one available on a Honda bike. I am not sure that the triple from the 954RR will fit there directly. I was thinking that if I go thru that whole deal I might as well but the best fork possible. The biggest problem I find with the stock fork is the lower triple. It is very thin and under hard driving the front is shaking a lot. I would put valves in the fork something like race tech or what ever but I still would have to do something about the lower triple. I did find a kit available but the price is a bit of a turn off. http://www.tsrjp.com/products/parts/catalo...xx&selectNum=12 That kit without the forks and without the new calipers you will need is 1700 US $ I will take the front of the XX apart and see what can fit. The forks from the RR would allready be quite an improvement, if they are easier to fit I might go that way.
  13. Not really trying to do anything in particular....I'm just bored at work. I can machine triple clamps That would be great. I am trying to find someone to machine a triple tree for my XX to put a pair of RC 51 forks. May be I can help you with your boredom.
