  1. RodeRash raised a good point. The following was copied from the Avon site. Maybe this information doesn't apply to the tires we have ordered. Apparently recommend the 49/50 combo. How fast have any of you had your 45/46's? My 45/46's are W rated which are good for 168 MPH.
  2. Also, make sure the contacts of the automotive relay you will be using are rated for at least the maximum amount of current you will be using.
  3. I think I might be calling the metal backing plates and shims the same thing. Do the metal backing plates that come with the EBC pads have to be installed with the pads or has anyone ever left them out? The instructions say they have to be installed.
  4. I remember people talking about using the shims or not using the shims but I couldn't find the end result. When you put the new EBC pads in, should you install the shims with the new pads? I put new pads in before Cody and this morning while I was removing the rear tire to have my NEW FREE AVON TIRE put on, I noticed I had installed the shims. The front brakes have been dragging quite a bit, but I tried riding a couple of miles then coasting to a stop and the rotors were still cool to the touch. Yesterday with the engine off, I backed it up with the handle bars cocked, and the front end squealed. It sounded like the brakes again. Well, shims or no shims?? Thanks for any help.
  5. Joe, I had the stock setup - a 17t cs, 45t rear, and a DID50ZVS chain. It's a '00 so it has an analog gauge. The dealer I bought it from had the speedo checked with a radar gun (friend that is a cop) and said it was right on up to 150 mph. After all the comments I've heard here, I have trouble believing his story now. Zarnyk, I think Carlos is saying, at an indicated 115 mph, you are actually running 100 mph, without applying individual speedo errors. So now I should start putting on more miles without actually riding them! Thanks for information.
  6. OK, I just have ONE more question concerning chains.......OK??? When you have gone down 1 tooth in the front and replaced the chain with a DID 530 ZVM, where did your wear indicator wind up?? I put both of mine on today and the wear indicator is coming up on (about 1/8" away from) the second notch from the front. That looks like I'm not going to have much adjustment left when this chain starts to stretch!! Well, one more question. Since so many people have gone down 1 tooth, does anybody have a graph or chart floating around depicting the speedometer error I'm going to have now?
  7. I had a wire burn into inside the insulated connector at the horn. After I cut if off and put it under some light, I could see the black traces. It has worked fine since I replaced it.
  8. Hummm, I guess I got lucky or maybe they're afraid of Texans. :bike:
  9. That's strange. They told me they didn't have any ZVM's. They just had the VM's. At least we got our chains. Got yours yet Keith??
  10. Thanks, Brett, I meant to say the "vendors reviews section". I knew you had some bad experiences with them but after talking with them I thought I would give them a shot. The only lower price I could find was White Buffalo Racing, and they couldn't guarantee delivery for at least a month.
  11. Keith, you can go to the Product Links to see some of the comments. Also I think Joe has had some delivery problems with them in the past.
  12. I received my chain and sprocket today from Starcycle. Everything was exactly as ordered and priced. I rode in the rain yesterday and now it looks like I wasted some wax on the old chain. From all the negative comments on Starcycle, I just wasn't sure the parts would get here very soon.
  13. Just a little positive feedback - last Friday (10/03) I ordered a new DID 530 ZVM chain and a 16t AFAM sprocket from them. I received both today (10/09) exacty as ordered. They were extremely easy to work with, they offered to cut 10 links off the 120 link chain at no charge for me. I was very pleased with the transaction.
  14. If you haven't ordered a chain yet, as of this afternoon, Starcycle.com still has one DID 530 ZVM (120 link) IN STOCK for $119.95 plus $10.00 shipping. Their 800 number is 1-800-990-2453.
  15. Oh, why don't you just leave the PCII out?? It works fine as long as you stay at one altitude, but you start running around in the mountains from the valleys to the passes and your 'bird won't run as good as you think it will. This happened to me in Cody. It ran like crap in the passes (cutting out, acting like it is running rich) but ok in the valleys. I disconnected it last week before I went to Colorado and it ran great. I blame the PCII! I had it dyno'ed with the PCII in it and he was able to smooth out a dip in the torque curve but I can't really tell the difference, but I'm not an expert. There wasn't that much of a gain in the HP either. Next.......
  16. Have you read this? http://www.cbr1100xx.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=276
  17. I've been lubing it with chain oils, not waxes. A couple of months ago I took the front cover off cleaned all the grit out of it. That's about all the cleaning I've done to it.
  18. I've only got 15,300 miles on the chain. It does feel like it has tight spots in it. John, where did you get yours for $130? Rock, I've tried oiling it several times, with different brands of chain oil I have. I was even going to buy some chain wax yesterday but I couldn't find any in this hick town. I'll have to wait until the next time I go to Amarillo. I want to go down one tooth in the front, so what chain do you think I should get? The 110 or the 120 or does it even matter?
  19. I'm getting a lot of chain noise now. The indicator is just at the red replace mark. It's making a loud clanking noise while going at a slow speed through town. I put it up on the centerstand and put it 6th and it scared me to death!! I thought it was going to shake it down off the centerstand. Has that happend to any of you? Anyway, I was surfing the net for a new chain and Parts 411 has a DID 530 ZVM X110 (or X120). What do you guys use? The 110 or 120? They want $146.32 for the 110. They also have a AFAM 16t front sprocket for $22.95. Has anybody done any business with them?? They say they'll beat anybody's price on the internet.
  20. Don, I have an Avon on the rear with a DOT number of AT8E 5 4501. It has about 4mm of tread left with about 3000 miles on it. Don and Pete, you know how much tread you had left when you got your tires replaced??
  21. Thanks Hugo. I ordered mine yesterday. Has anybody got one of these to balance your tires? The price sounds good enough. http://www.webbikeworld.com/Reviewed-motor...ancer/index.htm
  22. Carlos, maybe if you had a Power Commander in it, it wouldn't do that. Mine doesn't...............
