  1. where did you get that?
  2. If any of you guys are interested. This shock has less than 6,000 miles on it. (I'm guessing on the high side. If I get a reasonable offer I'll sell it. Otherwise I'll sell the stock shock which has less than 2,100 miles on it. Penske - $400.00 OBO Showa - make an offer
  3. I figured out how to get the reservoir out. There are bolts that hold up the back of the fender. Remove those two bolts and the fender will lower enough to remove the reservoir. Be very careful when removing the nut because if not secured it will fall right into the rear frame rail and I'm guessing impossible to extract. (See photo)
  4. Thanks for the responses. I'll see what I can get accomplished today. I just hate selling the bike with a $800 shock on it. It's not like that will increase the value of the bike. On another point, as I stated my plan was to install the Penske shock on Jackie's bike. My other option, if I can get it removed, is to sell it. Are any of you guys interested and what is a used Penske shock worth? No matter how you look at it I will have an extra shock at the end of the day, either the Penske or a stock shock with only 2,100 miles on it.
  5. I have a Penske 8981 installed on the 97XX that I am soon going to sell. I was going to switch out the shock to Jackie's 2001 XX but am having a bit of an issue with removing the remote reservoir. As you can see in the photo the reservoir will not slide under the rear cross brace. Can I disconnect the hose connecting it to the shock? Otherwise whoever buys this bike will be getting a heck of an upgrade on the shock. I'm guessing it is the 8981 model because it looks just like the second pic. Also, I have a stock shock off my other 97XX which I switched out right after I bought the bike used. It has just under 2,100 miles on it. It's been sitting in a box in my heated garage since I replaced it with the Ohlins.

    Hail dents

I feel for ya. When I was stationed in Oklahoma we got caught in a severe hailstorm. Just as the hail began falling we pulled into a Dog & Suds under the canopy. We had no damage. The hail was the size of golf balls. After it was all over we saw the damage to the cars, it looked like someone took a ball peen hammer to the bodywork. We were very fortunate. I had a 1969 Chevelle Supersport, SS396, 375 HP, 4-SPD, 3.73 gears. It was a beast!!

    CCT REPLACEMENT

I just started my XX up and it is very quiet. Because the noise increases gradually I had no idea how bad it was. It has 29,003 miles on it. I just started Jackie's 2001 XX with 17,972 miles and it is very quiet. My other 97XX with 25,052 miles, not so much. It too needs a new CCT.

    CCT REPLACEMENT

Here are pics of the old and new CCT The old one, pink dot was installed with 8mm bolts, the new one came with allen head bolts. The old one has a bolt in the end of it. Am I supposed to have a bolt for the new one?

    CCT REPLACEMENT

I just received my new CCT for my 1997 XX. Is their anything I should be aware of in order to replace the old one. I'm assuming it is a direct replacement, unbolt and remove the old one, install the new one and then remove the key that holds the piston in place. And then start the engine. Yes? No?
  10. Nope, that was the price for both.
  11. I received my new Pirelli Angel GT tires today. Woohoo!! Bought them on Amazon for $199.99, no tax, no shipping!! The fact that the new Angel GT II are out definitely lowered the price. On my next trip to AZ I'll get them mounted and balanced and the wheels checked out to make sure they aren't bent. I'll definitely take your advice and have them check the trashed tire for balance before they remove it as well as check the bearings.
  12. I cleaned the chain with kerosene, it seems a bit more flexible. It's definitely clean. There were no kinks or tight spots after I got everything re-installed. The chain seems to be in good shape. I don't think there was 2,000 miles on it before I started the trip. The bike just hasn't gotten a lot of use in Alaska these past few years.
  13. On certain crosswinds the bike would shake a lot more. Of course I was travelling at higher speeds, 80+, so that would add to the equation.
  14. Yeah, definitely some rough roads. Also, there was one bump I hit, there was a crack in the pavement and a good size rise from one side of the crack to the other. I was concerned at that point that I had a bent rim. We stopped and looked, nothing obvious. once I get the ne tires I'll have the wheels checked for deformity, balance, etc.
  15. Mine would pick up a bad tail wag around 140 too. I have an Ohlins shock set up for a 190 lb rider. My suspension is set up kind of stiff for a single rider. I have made trips with these cases before and never ran into this problem. This seemed to manifest itself after a few thousand miles and then it continually got worse especially at higher speeds. I have the GIVI 360 side cases and the GIVI 460 top case. I was running 40 psi. I haven't done any checking of the tire balance. I ordered new tires yesterday but they won't get here before I head back to Alaska. I'll be back in AZ the end of this month and have them replaced then.
  16. How do I get this clip to release
  17. I'm not sure how well these show it, but yesterday morning when the light was at a certain angle it was quite evident.
  18. Seeing as the GIVI bags aren't aerodynamically designed for the XX at higher speeds they vibrate which tends to shake the rear of the bike, therefore rear tire scarfing. I didn't notice the scarfing at first until I had the wheel off and a better look at the tire. I can't tell if the front tire may also have been affected. My thought is to replace them both. Any thoughts? I had the Pirelli Angel GTs on the bike. They seemed to perform quite well. Any other recommendations?
  19. On the last day of my trip I started out at 5:00 am only to discover the low beam was burnt out. Fortunately I still had high beam so other than annoying oncoming traffic, no problem. What bulb do you guys recommend for replacement and how difficult is it to get to the bulb? How much do I have to disassemble to access the bulb? Thanks for the help.
  20. Yeah, I was reading up on it, I'm going to pick up some kerosene tomorrow and clean it. From what I've read kerosene is better for the o-rings than WD-40
  21. I'm taking the bike apart to clean it after the 4,00 mile trip and the chain seems quite stiff. It did stretch during the first few days of constant rain and cold. I adjusted it after about 1,200 miles and it never seemed to stretch again. I don't think that chain has 10,000 miles on it. Any comments or suggestions?
  22. I just pulled the rear cowl off my 97XX to check the brake reservoir and it was almost empty. I just never think about checking those reservoirs because they are out of sight and I forget they exist.
  23. Still no idea why the dash indicator blinks opposite.
  24. Problem solved. My Grandfather always used to say: 'Look for the simplest solution." I forgot about the second brake fluid reservoir hidden by the rear cowling. It was empty. After draining and replacing the brake fluid and bleeding the system everything works fine. Had I checked that first I wouldn't have had to pull the rear wheel and right side exhaust and disassemble to caliper.😠 Good thing I'm retired.
  25. The motorcycles are kept in a garage so the rodent or insects intrusion is very remote. The nearest motorcycle repair shop is about 30 miles away.
