  1. Yes, we are currently financially fine and will be so for the foreseeable future. It's just forced some lifestyle changes which I can honestly say, I'm glad it was forced. I don't miss the woman's desire to eat out multiple times every weekend.
  2. What have you guys been up to? Still no XX for me....as I've been on the government teet since March. I was on a 90 day furlough until last week when a few thousand of us were laid off.
  3. Officially switching it up. I’m keeping ‘03 models in mind now.
  4. Well...I was getting closer to buying one and then a work trip got cancelled. I was going to check one out in SD next week but, now that event, flight, and all is cancelled. I'm going to think over the expense vs. convenience factors.
  5. I looked online at the service manual for the temp coolant sensor: At 168F '99 should be 47.5-56.8 k ohms After '99 should be 2.1-2.6 k ohms At 248F '99 should be 14.9-17.3 k ohms After '99 should be .62-.76 k ohms
  6. Thank you for clarifying. So the analog temp gauge working comes down to the resistance of the coolant temp sensor? And if only the resistance at the gauge is changed, then it could possibly be made to work within range?
  7. The digital dash sensor? I'm starting to understand what's going but, which digital dash sensor are you talking about possibly leaving in?
  8. Been racking my brain all day with posts trying to understand the things going on the background. I think I'm starting to understand now and was likely chasing my tail today due to a number of other factors. So, is there a way to calibrate the temp gauge?
  9. OK. So then I'm trying to understand, how have the correct water temp sensor for whatever dash is used, and having the correct thermo switch would cause a problem for fan triggering. Here's a quote from the other forum. So that explains what Rockme was saying about the temp gauge not working, I think. So then the question would be, how does a temp gauge get calibrated?
  10. One thing I'm confused out is the "temp sensor". Is everyone talking about the water temp sensor? Or is it some other sensor?
  11. That's just about what this other guy is saying https://www.cbrxx.com/threads/change-cluster-from-digital-to-analog.49673/
  12. I was actually looking on the internet for a comparison when this thread came up in the results.
  13. A post on going from analog to digital. https://www.cbrxx.com/threads/dash-upgrade-99-to-05.9447/ After reading it, I wonder if I just need the cluster, temp sending unit, wiring sub assembly, and thermo switch from a '99-'00 to put into an '03
  14. I've got the same conversation going on at the other forum https://www.cbrxx.com/threads/change-cluster-from-digital-to-analog.49673/#post-639529 The mention of the analog using two sensors, one for temp and another to start the fan has me going deeper down the rabbit hole of figuring this out.
  15. lol not quite. I am seriously considering an '03 and have eyes on a decently priced '99-'00 instrument cluster and the sub-wiring assembly. In theory, I could use a '99-'00 temp sensor? Or are they different plugs?
  16. 6-7 years ago we got word from my dad and uncle that us cousins had an aunt we didn't know about. They had been contacted by a lawyer that was retained by a woman who was adopted in the 40's. They met her and did their own research before telling us about her. Allegedly she was the daughter of my previously deceased grandmother and their half sister. A few months later I bought a 23andme kit and a few weeks later got the results. Who was tagged on there at 10% related and likely my aunt? That woman.
  17. So, if I had a ‘01 or newer bike I’d have the engine temp sensor, and that installs into the ‘00 or older cluster?
  18. I see what you’re saying now. I wonder if a person would have to make changes to the plug that connects the sub assembly. For the temp sensor that’s mentioned, is that a engine temp sensor or air temp sensor?
  19. "Why am I sore everywhere?", she asked this morning. Motorcycling requires your whole body to be active. So last night she told me that for now she's setting aside this idea of piloting on her own and will be happy to remain a passenger. I like the idea of her learning to ride dirt instead of road and expressed that to her last night in the form of, "You know, you could learn to ride on the dirt instead of the road. If you want to ride but, don't want to ride on the road, you can still learn and enjoy a different style of riding." I think for now and most likely for quite a while she's not going to pursue it.
  20. Report from her class. I rode over and parked in the shadows to see her standing and everyone else riding. Break time came and she spotted me. She told me that she was having fun but, didn't understand how she was supposed to coordinate her hands and feet. I had told her yesterday that I would give her a stationary-no motoring lesson on that if she wanted but, she didn't take me up on it. Well not understanding how, caused her to get into a situation and down the bike went. She said most of the impact was on her knee but, she's up and doing chores so I think she likely had a 5 mph or less fall. After that she didn't want to get back on the bike and she finished out the day watching everyone else. I gave her a good look over and listened to what she had to say about the day. She didn't land on her hands, or head, and all her gear looks just like it did before she went to the course. I think she's physically fine. "I have a new respect for your motorcycling and will always be your passenger. I'm not scared to ride on the back, I don't know if riding in front right for me.", she said. At this point I'm just going to be a support and if she wants to continue and perhaps take some private lessons, I'll be around to support. After a few questions about the instructor and the bike she was on I got to thinking....the Intruder she was on was not right for her and was a piece of garbage to even learn on. The instructor drove his car to the class, didn't provide any demonstrations for the class and commented that the bike she was on wasn't in good condition. That's three strikes in my book. She's not much on upper body strength, so if she's going to continue this, I'd like to find something inexpensive for her that's got less rake and still suitable for her...while still being able to take a beating without anyone feeling bad about it. However, I think she won't pursue it much more.
  21. Hot? Yes. High maintenance? Nah. She’s a got a “dirty job” and works with our finest everyday, which for her job means she also deals with scumbags too. Now if she decides she needs a Ducati, might change my opinion. Pics from tonight.
