  1. just wondering if anyone has an opinion on moog ball joints good or bad .im fixing up a 1970 holden station wagon, currently with a 161 engine 3 speed manual on the column but i will be fitting a 3.8 litre v6 and 4l60e trans.while i have the front end off i want to replace the worn steering and suspension parts.apparently the ball joints are the same as on some chevs, upper k5108 lower k5103.most of the stuff here in oz seems to come from china with reports of them wearing out after a couple of years so im wanting to fit quality ones that last.
  2. have you checked the wiring loom factory test plug.
  3. i measured 233 millimetres on my old stock springs
  4. The new oem stator just arrived for my 99 cbr1100 and im just wondering if it has a protective coating on it that needs to be cleaned off before i install it or if i just fit it straight out of the wrapper
  5. Hi EVLXX on my 99 model blackbird i have battery at rest 12.9v at 2k im getting 14.35 at 5k its the same at 14.35 and once the bikes warmed up im getting mid to hight 13v's (bike idles a bit rough) those readings are with a mosfet reg rec from jacks roadstercycles
  6. ;how are things running on the regulators? ; im interested in this too as im after another reg rec myself.
  7. if you can get the engine to run on starter fluid for a few seconds maybe you can hear/feel if the injectors are firing.
  8. if you can connect a timing light to one of the sparkplug leads that should let you know if your getting power to the plug.sounds like a fuel blockage somewhere to me though.
  9. Hi all, just thought i would post up an update.looks like the problem was the choke (enrichment) slide for number 4 cylinder.it looked like it was fully seating when the bike had warmed up but it seems it wasnt.gave it a good spray with carby/throttle body cleaner and its running much better and the plug is looking good.
  10. im interested .they have free postage to australia
  11. hi jowhee,it has standard mufflers on it and the engine is stock with no add ons and has around 145000 miles on the clock. ive owned it for about 11 years now and service it regularly.this is the first time ive had a problem with it where im stumped as to the cause.
  12. How did you confirm that, pulling the plug?.....hi blackhawk, yeah it was by checking the plugs.no 4 is still sooty after a long ride and fuel consumtion is still fairly high, roughly 13.5 kilometres to the litre with riding sensibly.with the backfiring/popping in the exhaust when engine braking, ive checked for any leaks in the exhaust and replaced the muffler gaskets to rule them out(still backfiring and popping) but after a search online re backfiring/popping in the mufflers it was suggested to up the idle speed.ive done that and its stopped it for now.all i can think of now is maybe a valve is out of spec, although if that would cause a cyl to run rich i have no idea.
  13. ive swapped over no 4 injector with no 2 injector and also swapped the ignition lead on 4 with no 2 but no 4 cyl is still running rich.any other ideas as to what could be causing it would be much appreciated.
  14. i took off the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose and started the bike but no fuel came out.the choke levers all appear to be going in when warm.will try swapping the injector over with number one and see what happens as at least that way it should tell me if theres a problem with it or not.is there anything involved in swapping them out that i should be careful of?
  15. im guessing the fuel pressure regulator is the bit on the end of the injector rail. i searched on here before posting up to see if anyone else at some stage had this problem and i noticed the fpr was getting mentioned so i pulled the vacuum hose and theres no fuel in it.although if it had gone wouldnt all cylinders be running rich due to excess fuel being forced through? getting around 14.63 volts at the battery at 3000rpm. checked the battery before starting the bike and it read 13.11 volts.from memory i thought it should be around 12.7 to 12.8 or is that acceptable? the bike starts no problem. not sure how the choke system works, but is it possible for the choke to be sticking on a bit on that one injector?
  16. the battery is strong and i have no other accessories attached to the system.there are no fault codes being displayed swapping no 4 injector with no 1 looks like the next option to try.is this a big job?
  17. Hi, hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on a problem im having with my 99 blackbird which now has me stumped.seems to be running rich in the number 4 cylinder.the old plugs i took out showed 1 2 and 3 running fine but number 4 plug was sooty.ive now replaced all the plugs, plug caps, air cleaner, ive run injector cleaner in the tank, checked the fuel pressure valve, checked the connections at the coils as well as the lead to the plug for any sign of damage.i can hear the injector clicking while the bike is running and it sounds the same as the others.the new plug at no 4 is now sooty while the other 3 are fine and i sometimes get some backfiring through the mufflers when i throttle off,(engine braking).the bike idles a bit rough but still pulls very strong when i open up the throttle.not sure what else to try.
  18. thanks for the replies.unfortunately welding didnt work but managed to locate a second hand radiator in napoli and am having it express posted up to me in the dolomites which should get me back on the road.
  19. gday all.im after a radiator for my 99 blackbird.i shipped my bike from australia to europe and am now in italy with a holed radiator.if anyone has one they are willing to sell and they can express post to me i would be extremely grateful. cheers pete
  20. i got ebc brake pads from cs@PowersportSuperstore.com $30.33 a set .still trying to find somewhere that ships to australia for an air filter though.
  21. 187000 klms on my 99.only real problems have been electrical(reg rec and stator) so far.

    Sonic Springs?

Ive just recently fitted sonic springs 1.00 to my bike.havnt had a chance to get it out on open roads yet but around town i can really notice an improvement.oil is 7.5 silkolene pro set at 115 as per the recomendation from sonic springs.the instructions come with them for cutting the spacers for preload.
  23. when my alternator went on my bike one honda mechanic said it was the regulator rectifier.took it to another mechanic for a second opinion and he reckoned that if the reg rec had gone then it would be too hot to touch.can anyone else verify that as it would be the easiest way to check if it was still good.
  24. all stock bulbs and no extra electric gear on it.the bike dosn,t get to sit around at idle for long either.when i had the problems and the battery got flattened i had it trickle charged by a battery centre.apart from those two times the batteries been great.the electrition who rewound the stator for me was surprised it went as the wire gauge used was a heavy duty one.had him check over the bike and he could find no reason why it burn,t out.i have a feeling it may have been from when i had the crankcase welded about 8 months earlier due to the chain breaking.
