  1. thanks for the help everyone. Ill start with the indicator mechanism on the handlebar and go from there... I think the poor girl is getting a little long in the tooth. I did a 3 day ride last week (oxley highway) and lost a fairing stay and the right hand handlebar endweight. Poor thing is falling apart !!
  2. Bulbs are all flashing away as intended. Front and rear indicators flash at the same rate. No bulbs have burnt out. The problem seems to come and go and seems to be more prevalent once the bike has been running for a while and is warmed up. I recently needed to change the battery and ive only noticed it occurring since then....
  3. Hi, A weird problem has started occurring with the birds' indicators. When I press either left or right on the indicator switch it takes a second or two before the indicators start working. I also noticed that the dash indicator flashes at a different rate to the actual indicators (a bit quicker). This has only recently started happening. No idea what's going on here and hoping its a simple fix. Any Ideas ?? Thanks.... Bernie
  4. Hi again, Thanks for the help with the yoshi/PC3 question. So, I figured, if im going to change the exhaust and ECU then what else could I do to eek out more power from the bird. I have a fairly limited budget (maybe 3 grand) and I dont really want to touch the bottom end. I was considering a port and polish and bigger cams. Is this a good option or are there better ones ?? Bernie
  5. Did you also need to install a power commander ??
  6. Does anyone have an opinion on the Yoshimura systems ?? It seems they are a lot easier to get than anything else.....and a fair bit cheaper
  7. Hi everyone, Im thinking about getting a new exhaust for the bird. Its a 2003 model and Akra make a good 4-2-1 system that I like. Problem is that they sell it for the '2004-2006' models. Whats the difference between the 2003 and 2004 models as far as the exhaust system goes ?? I thought the bird wasnt changed at all (apart from colours) after 2001. Also, any recommendations on other full exhaust systems ?? Price isnt the most important factor. Id rather pay more for a good looking/functional system than spend less and be unhappy with the result. If I could somehow keep the centre stand, that would be a bonus... Thanks for the help. B.
  8. Ive tried the diablo/strada combo. Good tyre life but not the best feedback and so felt a bit uneasy to me. I currently have Michelin pilot sports fitted. I did a 2500km trip at easter and they worked will. They need to be hot before max grip/feedback occurs though. Top wet weather tyres too. Im going the diablo corsa`s next. I hear only good things about them. Dont care if they only last 5000kms
  9. Hey all, I was following a mate of mine a while back and noticed that the bottom bulb of his tail lamp was flickering while riding. Ive been told mine does the same thing. Anyone know what causes bit is causing this and what I can do to stop it ?? Cheers
  10. I owned one of the first fireblades imported into Australia (1992) and I had no problems getting the knee down on both sides. The blackbird is a different matter. Ive got pretty long legs and ive only touched the sliders down once...and I had to really get off the side of the bike to do that. If you want to get the knee down then buy a sports bike.
  11. I was always told that you clean your chain with diesel.
  12. Well I got to Brisbane OK. Cant say a bad thing about the pilot sports. They`ve done everything I asked of them. They did start to ball up after the trip through the putty road though...which was a surprise. While I didnt have any `moments` I feel those tyres arnt 100% suited to the weight of the bird. The monkey that worked on my bike at Action needs a few lessons though. He said the tyre pressures he set were 42 each end. It didnt feel right so I tested them and they were 32 front and 37 rear. Add to that the small gouge mark on my front fender and that $400 is looking not so cheap.
  13. Got the bird back today and its waaaaaay better. Took a quick run up Springwood road. The thing now corners like its on rails. Bought new tyres to celebrate. Action Moto are doing a special on Michelin pilot sports fitted for $400. Gonna give it a real test on thunderbolts way tomorrow
  14. So that means "fresh" shitty components?? Mike ...maybe Hopefully not though... Ill let you know when I get it back...

    GIVI mount

On the way home from the island on Tuesday I saw a bird that had a Givi topbox mounted to standard blackbird panniers. It was a custom job. Was well done and looked professional. Ill see if I can find the photo and post it.... ...and here they are
  16. Mine's in at Teknik racing at Penrith. They quoted me ~$1250 to completely re-kit the front suspension and rebuild the rear shock. New springs included front and rear to suit my weight. Also includes removing and re-fitting parts to the bike. No gold valves though and no aftermarket shock. Just a refresh of the OEM parts.
  17. Fuck buying the shock here in Aus, order one from the US and fit it yourself You can order them with the correct weight spring and valved to suit your weight and riding style and fitting the shock is a piece of piss I wouldn't really bother getting the stock shock rebuilt as it still only has rebound damping only and changing the spring preload is a pain in the arse trying to adjust those locking rings :icon_think: :icon_wall: I am in the process of replacing my forks with some 04 XX forks I got that have Ohlins valves but was originally just going to replace springs and oil Just happened to get lucky with the forks What weight are you as this will depend on whether you need new uprated springs :icon_think: Ill need uprated springs as im 6"4' and 110KG
  18. Yeah get rid of the Pirelli's and put on Michelin's Suspension? Depends how deep your pockets are? First thing is have you put a "6mm SHIM" on the rear shock? This I reckon is the cheapest improvement you can make to the stock XX suspension Next is making sure the springs are rated for your weight, if your not around 85kg then you are outa luck :icon_think: I have put a rebuilt 95 CBR 900RR shock and uprated Eibach spring on the back of mine (~$360AUD) and it made a huge difference and am in the process of replacing the front forks with some 04 XX forks with Ohlins valves that I got at a good price (~$365AUD) with some uprated Sonic Fork Springs (~$125AUD) Some of the guys on OzBB have replaced the front forks with RC51/SP1 USD forks which also entails delinking the brakes but apparently gives a lot better performance but costs like $2500-$3000AUD (+ your labour) I believe Warchild has put the Traxxion cartridges in his BB forks and they apparently make a huge difference but are ~$2000USD :icon_think: They have also put either Ohlins, Penske or Wilbur's shocks on the rear which apparently work real well but are like $1500AUD to buy in Aus + fitting, ( ~$1000AUD to order from the US :icon_think: ) gees....The quote I got was AU$960 to rebuild the front and rear with the correct spring for my weight, rebuild the rear shock and strip/rebuild the front forks with better suited bits etc. I was thinking of inquiring about an aftermarket ohlins shock but $1500 + fitting is a little out of my price range. Ill have a chat to the shop tomorrow and see what they recommend.
  19. I see there are a few topics covering suspension recently...so I thought id add my 2c worth... Just got back from Phillip Island and the World Superbikes. Had a few days playing in the Australian Alps, which really highlighted the crap suspension on my bird. In fast cornering (or what I consider fast) its nervous on the turn in, wallows around mid corner and, if you hit a bump, it wants to stand straight back up. Its also destroyed my Pirelli Strada rear. So, ive booked my girl in for a full suspension service. So, while I have everything pulled apart, I was thinking of upgrading the suspension... Any recommendations ??
  20. Just curious how you know you over oiled the filter once it was buttoned back up? There are drainage holes in the bottom of the airbox. These holes are directly over the engine. Oil leaked from filter onto engine onto floor.
  21. Hi, A word of advice. Dont over oil K&N air filters. They make a big mess of your engine casing if you do.
  22. I noticed the centre stand has been removed. Is it possible to fit a full Akra system and retain the centre stand ??
  23. None of the pics on this site will enlarge for me either. I think it's a board problem. same here...just get some error. Damn...my Panniers arrived yesterday too
  24. Ordered the cases and mounting kit today. Gonna be $1100 to get them out to Australia....still...thats $700 cheaper than the local honda dealer. Havent decided which way ill mount them yet
  25. Those look very nice on the black bike. I just checked with that site, and the price is listed as $580 USD. What was the cost of shipping? Was it $200? I checked out the site and its way cheaper than here...the full kit costs $1800 here...looks like I can get it shipped here for around $1000AU sweet
