  1. Additional thought. Gasoline engines need three things to run. Air, should be a given. Spark and fuel. How about trying a small spray of starter fluid in the ram air vent. If it tries, the probable fuel problem. If not, probable electrical
  2. You say it tires to turn over. Slow cranking, or as fast as before? If slow, put a volt meter on the battery and read while cranking. Mine drops to around 9.5 volts, with a 3 year old battery. It might be worth a charge overnight. I don’t like using jumper cables on a bike. Too much ummph, it there is something else wrong. And I have to ask, do you have gas. Btdt. πŸ˜–
  3. sometimes I agree with Mike. 32k for plugs, 50 k or more for a fuel filter, isn’t so bad. Using good fuel, and riding often is best for your bike and your sanity. You should see what you have to do to change a pump Bills k1200rs. I’m sure that you know it, but pull your battery before pulling your tank. One slip and you scratch you tank. Or use all of your fire extinguishers. saftey first
  4. Mine was very intermittent. And sometimes, just cycling the ignition seemed to fix it.πŸ€” The filter was my last resort, and did the trick. There were two types used. One that had straight exits, and a curved hose on it. (Flaps) has a close replacement for $10.00. Or one with the metal curve. $50.00 on line. Of course I needed the expensive one. I have been researching fuel pump replacement for a friends beemer. not all fuel line is the same. All carry fuel, but some melt when submerged. Get the good stuff, if you try to adapt the cheaper filter. I would lift the rear of the tank and look at the fuel line routing. Someone may have been there before you. Also take pictures of the other tubing attached to the tank. One is a vent, the other is a overflow. They are both black.
  5. I had simular problems with a bad fuel filter. 100’s of miles with no problems. Then surging, or cutting off. No errors. After all else fails electrically, I took a SWAG, and changed the filter. It got worse.πŸ˜– I lifted the tank again and saw that I had twisted the fuel line banjo bolt when I put the tank back. The twisted fuel line was stopping almost all fuel flow. I corrected my dumb assery, and all has been good for the last 5k+ miles using a new filter. 01, with 55k miles on the clock when I started having problems.
  6. I bought a s10 with a k/n filter, The previous owner must have thought that oiling was, β€œ spray a can of oil on the filter, in the air box”. I had a 1/4 in of oil in the bottom of the box. And a MAF sensor that was too gunked to clean. OEM paper is my choice

  12. Those connectors look like they had corroded for a while. Oscar's advice is spot on. Cut back the wiring until you get to clean conductors. Use quality connectors, and a good set of crimpers. I like to solder mine too.

  15. Welcome I don't have the skills required. Do you have plans for what you want? Or are you looking for a ground up design? This information would certainly help.   16. No I dont. I plan to do this mosfet exchange on my 01 this week. If I remember, 01 was the first year of the higher wattage regulator. And it was repositioned. I'm sure that it will work, just not sure about the connectors.
  17. Yes John, And thank you. They don't match what I have in replacement parts, but I think that I can create something that will work. The picture makes me plan for extra time when I open it up.
  18. John, A big favor. Before you ship the r/R, would you post a picture of the two connectors? I still haven't installed my New mosfet r/R. I purchased the BMW cable which looks like it will plug and play the stator side, but I'm not sure about the battery end. I'm trying to leave my oem harness intact , for that on the road failure. Thanks
  19. That is one beautiful bike. I don't live in Gods country like Vern, so I get to ride 5-6 hours to get to the mountains. I have had that same cruise on my XX for over ten years. You can't imagine how nice they are on long rides. Mine has failed me twice. Both times my fault. it uses a ball chain ( like the pull chain on a ceiling fan). Stupid me, I didn't crimp the chain connector link, and it fell off after a few years. The other time was a cold solder joint on a aux relay that I installed for power. Manuals and parts are available if you look, and another company is making a newer one that does away with the vacuum servo. Good of luck on the sale. Someone will be lucky to get that bike.
  20. Ballencer adjustment My 01 has also developed a vibration twice, after long , high heat, idle. Daytona bike week traffic. 😑. Mine went back to smooth pretty soon, but I always figured to try the ballencer adjustment , IF, it came back.
  21. was the tank pulled? The fuel line is a angled banjo bolt that has a slotted guide. Idiot proof right ? Not quite. mount it upside down, and the fuel line will kink, causing fuel starvation. I found this when I was replacing the fuel filter that was also causing a intermittent stumble and rough idle. edit, if you choose to check your filter, remember that the filter does a 180 degree turn. Blowing through it will give you a bath. And yes, I am that stupid.

  23. My first thought Is tire or tires. With 30k miles, you should be on at least your third front and fourth rear. Have YOU replaced tires since you owned it? It might help to post make, and date code of the tires. Next, chain. You are probably 1/2 way through your second chain. Get close and personal with it. Move each link seperately. Just one binding link will shake the bike like a bad tire. Try pulling the chain rearward from the rear sprocket. A good chain will show little gap between the chain and sprocket. Do this, then rotate the tire a little and try again. Chains stretch in sections. If you find a area that really pulls away from the sprocket, then you probably found the problem. You could also have loose head bearings, worn wheel bearings, a sticking fork, etc. But my experience on many bikes lean toward tires and chains. And if a chain, spend the money on a quality O-X chain. They really are smoother, and last longer.
