  1. You need a battery analyzer. Standby chargers are good at masking weak batteries. http://www.harborfreight.com/digital-automotive-battery-analyzer-66892.html Picked one up after watching my Caterpillar generator tech use one at my workplace.

+ one Partzilla. Just ordered some service items for my bikes. For me it is the most user friendly website to use, best price and never a problem with orders.
  3. I also have an 06 TSX, and when I got the car with 50K on it, the brakes had just been done with what I assume was OEM parts since it was still titled to American Honda (lease car). I now have about 90K on it and so far its been fine, but it does seem to be common problem. I'm sure everyone that owns one has been on the Acurazine forum, and you could spend quite bit off time reading into the problem to see what might have worked for someone else. http://acurazine.com/forums/first-generation-tsx-discussion-2004-2008-124/ The only complaint I have with mine is that if I let it sit for 2-3 weeks, the battery goes down.
  4. If you aren't pulling any codes after you look at the manual then it is probably the test plug(loom fix). Before you go to the trouble of doing the group soldering we should try this- www.posthorn.com/Stab_2.html I was having the FI light problem with my 99XX, tried dielectric grease with no luck and then used this stuff. That was two years ago and so far it has not been back. My contacts were as new with no corrosion before I tried this contact enhancer so YMMV. Let me know Joe, and I can pay you a visit.
  5. I'm on my 2nd ZX14 and it is a 2012 R. The ZX14R is a much nicer bike than the original. I like the newer styling, big jump in HP, traction control, and how everything can be toggled from handlebar for the menu's and selections on the instruments. The suspension also seems a little more plush on the highway. I'm getting mid 40's mpg at 70mph, and both ZX's are ultra smooth. I regularly ride my XX's, Busa , and ZX14, and have never been bothered by engine heat on any of them except setting at stop lights on a hot day. As Dave mentions they did some air management to the 14R that was supposed to be an improvement, but the only thing I noticed is that it is a pain in the ass to get bodywork off now due to all the hidden fasteners.
  6. My 99XX started flickering the FI light at about 40k. I would pull the plug on the test connector and exercise the contacts. This would last for probably 10k before it would come back. It became more frequent as the miles went by so I finally tried some Stabilant 22. My contacts looked as good as new, and not wanting to do the group soldering of the ground wires I thought it was worth a try. That was two years ago, I'm now at 87k, and so far the FI light has never been on. www.posthorn.com/Stab_2.html
  7. Might try this link- http://www.ixxra.com/vfrbars.htm
  8. Just curious Dave-Did you find something that you liked better than the Gerbings for heated gear?
  9. Thanks for the thread and link. I have always bought OEM and didn't know that the XX and ZX14 took the same filter. I also ordered the Suzuki adapter and now my Busa will also take the same filter as the rest of them. It will be nice just keeping one filter for all and paying about half the price, plus getting a better filter to boot. I was hoping my TSX would also use the PL14612, but it looks to take the longer PL14610.
  10. That's a bargain-Red XX's are hard to find, and especially with that low of mileage. I rarely get compliments on my black XX's, but quite frequently the non-motorcycle people tell me how nice my red one looks. Someone needs to buy it, just so you will have a memory of how good Honda used to be.
  11. Checked mine for the 2nd time on my 99 XX this spring at 77K and all was well. I don't think I'll ever go the trouble again, but will probably do a check on my 01 since I've never checked them. I have had it a little over a year and it has 24K. I did the PAIR block off to my 99 and just pull the valve cover off from the top without messing with the radiator. Its tight between frame rails, and it also still has the original gasket with no leaks. From what I'm seeing, I think when I have to do a valve check on my ZX14R, I'm going to appreciate how easy the XX is. Monocoupe frames suck when it comes this kind of maintenance.
  12. I have an 03 XX stashed that I only start and ride a few miles about every six months. Always acts like it was just ridden yesterday. Same as Jon- Full tank of treated fuel (siphoned once a year and refilled) and battery tender. No worries.
  13. I have Storms on all 3 XX's, Busa, and my new ZX14R will very soon have a set. Been thru around 10 sets, and getting about 9-10K miles out the rear and change the front at that time also. I live in Kansas(not many curves) but do make it to Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma on a lot of weekends. They wear well (very little cupping on fronts) and have never done anything to make me uncomfortable. All my riding is commuting and sport touring so and I haven't had a reason to try anything different yet, but have been thinking about trying a set of PR 2's.
  14. This is no doubt a 300,000 mile car. +1 My mom is driving an 06 Civic with 230,000 miles and not a single issue. Just routine consumables.
  15. Like others have said, I think he can get 7K or within a few hundred to the right person. Just need to get it noticed. I saw a craigslist add a few week ago where a guy was looking for an 01, and wanted exactly what you have. Claimed to have cash in hand for the right specimen. With the prices of new bikes, an almost new old bike at that price is a little easier to justify.
  16. I think you have it priced right on CL. Its hard to find the 01's and especially with the very low miles yours has. I'm sure you have a little wiggle room and may have to negotiate down a little but not much. The board member price, in my opinion, is a bargain. If it would have been that clean in the pictures you sent me back in the spring, I probably would have owned it.
  17. Shipping is a good option, and can give you a lot more choices on getting just the bike you want. I've used Federal twice, and had a good experience. SpokaneXX's Redbird looks to be a great deal for the price. I was actually looking at it, but ended up with another Red XX not far from him. Shipping from Washington state to Kansas was about $750.
  18. Jon, thanks for the offer and I might take you up on the delink offer if the LBS gives me anymore problems. I just recently had a problem with my rear pedel going soft and it ended up being the secondary master cylinder. A kit fixed it and alls good except for the front hoses showing their age. One question- when you delink, are you using just the top pistons only? Somehow I wasn't bringing up the 2 line XX kit on my search. I'm going to get a set and see what it does.
  19. After installing Galfers front lines on my Busa last week, I'm looking to do the same for my 99XX with 75K. Want to keep the LBS system, and don't want to do the complete kit since I rarely use the rear. Ive done a search here and on the .com, but not finding much info on just the front only. Anyone do this and know where to purchase the front only kit?
  20. Clean bike for the miles and looks like it was well loved. I have a friend in the market for a XX that isn't far away and will give this one the seal of approval. Hopefully I will be able to convince him that the miles mean nothing for a XX that has been maintained. My 99 has 74,000, and is the same bike as it was when I purchased it with 20K.
  21. Offered here at the org, before I get raped with Ebay fees. Haven't used it for years, just never felt the love for the Corbin. Stock seat works much better for me. Done in the "Carbon"material, and in nice shape. Regularly treated, and stored in the house the last few years. No tears or scuffs. Does have some slight wear on the front part of the seat. $290 Shipped PayPal OK
