  1. Its at OSH too. excellent to wipe down tools with...makes the garage smell like.... Victory! T
  2. Claifornia supposedly had a new law go into effect in Jan 2003 that makes it difficult to sell a house once mold has been discovered. Things like this might migrate to your state, watch out. I say blow this thread away and take some of the good advice given here. The only question is, why just a 20% bleach solution? Good luck
  3. Reading through the manual of service tasks, I noticed that the clutch fluid is to be blead at 12K miles and I had missed it before. So I decided to handle this with the Honda brand DOT 4 stuf and a hand vacuum pump in a brake bleed setup. I had a lot of trouble getting just fluid to come out with the vac pump. I dicked with the bolt and pump but couldnt get just fluid to flow, lotsa air getting sucked through (from around the bolt threads I presume. So I reverted to the old method of squeezing the clutch handle and then loosening the bleed bolt and tightening it up at the bottom of the pull, repeat, fill with fluid, repeat until I was satisfied. That worked real good. There was a few small shards of metal flake and grit that came out too. I am impressed that the feel of the clutch is more precise now. I am shifting a little smoother. Any one with some clear tubing and 20 minutes could crank this right out. If you have missed some shifts or caught yourself not being silky smooth with your shifting lately it might be worth the effort. Trent
  4. I remeber trying to rotate my clutch lever down and It was causing interference with the plastic housing for the light switch. Look inbetween the lever and the bar when you squeeze it and see if they are touching. You might have to back it off a bit and rotate it up a bit as I did. Trent
  5. Mail ordered the Pilot Sport HPX's to replace the stock BT57s w/ 11K on them. Just a hair over 300.00 to my door from kneedraggers.com, took the wheels off and let cyclegear change and balance the tires for 14.99 ea. My confidence into turns has increased with the much stickier than stock HPX's. I slid the tires too many times to push the stockers too much but the mileage was great! I thought I would splurge on some fancy tires and try these out and they seem to be wearing very well. 750 miles so far. ... got 1200 miles on them now and they are wearing good. I still have a rubber whisker or two showing on the rear (offset 2 inches from center) This can only lead me to believe that the compound is hard enough to provide good wear. I have 3/8 chicken strips on the tire edges, so I am not the most aggresive rider. But I do ride hard and fast when appropriate and am surprised with the tire wear. I thought at first that the front end seemed more bouncy than with stock, but I am not so sure that it was the balance job done by the high school kid at Cycle gear. They removed my tire weights that were mounted on the center spine and replaced them with adhesive backed ones more toward the outside of the rim. I am not sure this is the best answer for balancing the XX. I only seemed to notice this at first during freeway riding and I dont notice it anymore so it might have just been that the new rubber was more elastic and gave me a different feedback than the old rubber. The tires look mean when new with the "alternate compound" stripe along the circumference the tire. It only shows in the grooves now but If I wipe off the tires I still like to see it there. They are clearly marked "made in Spain" so dont let that anti French stuff put you off. If hard working guys and gals are building quality product I dont see a need to put them out of work. (even if they do have hairy backs!) lol
  6. Can you check the front tire weighting (balance) with the wheel still on the bike? I use a wooden saw horse and some nylon tie down straps to lift the front when I need to but I havent tried to check the tire weighting via this method. Trent
  7. Hairspray works real good as a grip lube too. Learned that one building bikes. As in bicycles. Trent
  8. I thought maybe you guys were kidding about the mileage your getting until I saw so many posts of guys getting a lot of mpg. I have put 12,000 miles on my 2001 in 15 months and have never got more than 150 before the light starts blinking. Most of the time 130-140. I just chalked it up to big engine... big thurst, plus I just gotta give it a twist or two each time I ride. I ride half freeway and half street most of the time. Freeway 5th or 6th at 70-90 mph.... I like to keep the revs up when traffic gets heavy or I am coming up to an interchange. By up I mean 6-9K. Trent
  9. Mine makes noises that I dont like if I start it on the side stand. I normally start it up on the center. I thought it might have something to so with the tolerances being so close internally. My rear wheel will spin a little for a minute or so too untiil the engine gets a warm leading me to the tolerance thing and the viscosity of the oil until warm. Thats my guess. Trent and yes its in neutral!
  10. I was jonesing to post something so here goes. I am trentxx from the old board, recently got some new tires... I replaced the brakes at the time too with the Honda brand pads. Much better stopping with new brakes, the rear was holding up fine but one side on the front needed it so I did em all. Trent
