  2. Yo Stephan! I'm not doing the race this year because we're headed off to a family vacation that week. But that's awesome your still doing it. Would love to volunteer and ride it this year on the bird if I weren't going away. I am still making beer, have a stout and a pale ale on tap currently, which is partly the reason why i am still up. The other reason being this crazy electrical storm i am watching. Crazy!!! With the price I currently am asking, we can probably get together when I get back from vaca and go for a ride. Scroll down a bit in this post, there's an attached .pdf with pics for ya. http://www.cbr1100xx.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=60390 Make sure to check the ground wires as they connect to the battery and the frame. There's a ground wire attached under the tank, simply raise it to access, no need to completely drain/remove. Just make sure you've got good grounds. I didn't even disconnect the battery when I did mine. It's pretty simple really. When you get the plug out of the loom and disconnected, you will be able to see what wires are connected to what based on the plug's configuration. Just do one set at a time, as to not get all the wires confused. There's not a lot of slack to work with, the wires could easily get mixed up if you disconnected them all at once. And your last question is really a personal comfort level type question. My bike in the later stages of symptoms starting cutting fuel on and off. Especially at low RPMs. Makes for really interesting slow speed turns, when in the middle of your lean, power is removed from the equation. I didn't like being 1 block from home when this happened, let alone hundreds of miles away. Edited to add: This trip you're taking...NeXXt per chance? If so, see ya there!
  8. I had the same exact situation, I'm on a 2000 bird, so I opened the loom up and found the connector. Upon inspecting it, it was immaculate. No rust, corrosion, pitting or fouling of any kind. Therefore I loaded it up with dialectic grease, and put it back together. This lasted for a couple of months before it started acting up again. I opened it back up and re-inspected, cleaned, and put back together. Again, lasted for a couple of months. The loom and connector showed no signs of getting worse. I must have done this 3-4 times before I finally cut off the connector and soldiered it all together. It's been fine since, not even a hiccup. The point of the story is, do the solder fix first, regardless of how "clean" it looks, and save yourself some time. I'd also say with 99% certainty that the symptoms you're describing are related directly to the loom problem. Get rid of it, you'll be glad you did. Jay
  9. I like the VFR myself. Looks more OEM than Heli IMHO. Go to some VFR forums, and post that you're looking for a set of used bars, those guys trade their bars for Heli's too, and you might find a set cheap that are just sitting in someone's garage. Good luck fishing! Jay
  10. Is the FI light on constantly, or does it flicker and vary in brightness? If it's a constant on, then check the error code. If it's intermittent, or flickering, there might not be any error codes. The other thing you might want to check is the "wire loom fix". There's a bunch of threads addressing this issue on here, the corrosion here can be pretty bad, especially I would imagine if you stored it outside. Good luck! Jay
  11. These are pretty solidly built machines. There's a thread on here somewhere about folks talking about what parts of their birds needed replacing due to failure. I think if you find it, you'll see some folks had their R/R fail, which inturn caused Stators or batteries to also fail. Others complain about the CCT, and the noise associated with the spring becoming slack over time. That's about all I can think of off hand, the motor and tranny are built to last. It is a Honda after all. Good luck with your purchase.
