  1. I don't think it's an issue with the import into the RSA, I've been told that I can have it reset, will try it when the next major service is due; up to now I've been living in the country, where there are plent of wide open spaces and you can indulge your need for speed, but where the proper Honda service centers are also few and far apart. Now I'm living in the city, where you need to watch what speed you're doing at all times, but where the Honda service centers are more easily found ...
  2. Wow. I like the newer look...wish I had it on my '99. To each his own, as they say; I just find the digital readings more difficult to interpret at a glance, and why the speedo has to be limited at 299 km/h also does not make much sense. To make matters worse, mine won't read past 180 km/h; it can be reset to read the maximum (299 km/h), but now it's an extra bother and costs, whereas the analog meters just looks good to me, and a quick glance at where the meters are pointing gives me a much better idea of what's happening. A few times I opened up my 'Bird, and once you're past the speedo's maximum reading, you have to guess at how fast you're going, by the only analog meter on the dash, i.e. the rev-counter ...
  3. If there is one thing I REALLY don't like about the later model 'Birds, it must be the instrumentation. The older 'Birds had it exactly right with the all-analog meters, why Honda had to go and fit the digital combination meter is completely beyond me. Has anybody ever tried retrofitting the older analog meters to a 2003 - 2007 model Balckbird?
  4. Checked the battery voltage before starting: 12,5 V. After starting, at what sounds like maybe 3000rpm (instruments are dead), the voltage was sitting at 14,3 volts. Since the headlights are not working, I couldn't really put any load on the circuit, is this voltage (14,3V) normal, or is this confirmation that the regulator is shot? I would have expected about 13,8V ...?
  5. Thanks, I'll check that out; I'll also maybe check the wiring, I noticed some bad-looking joins, but fiddling with them did not change the problem, and I need heat-shrink sleeving to properly repair them. But the rectifier sounds more plausible, in my experience, it's good practice to clear up bad-looking joins, but they are almost always disappointingly not the cause of the problem ...
  6. Three days ago, as I started my bike (2004 Blackbird) I noticed that the headlights were dead, and that the inidcators were not working properly, only as hazard lights, no ability to indicate left or right turns. As I was at work and needed to get home, I took my chances and kept an extra sharp lookout whenever I had to turn or do a lane change. Speed helped a great deal to just get away from any danger posed by other vehicles, so engine performance was unaffected, but as I got underway, I soon noticed that the instruments were all dead as well. Naturally I checked all the fuses, as well as the headlight bulb, and could not find anything wrong. I found out later that the HISS can't be activated either. To summarise: Headlights, indicators not working No instrumentation, although the lights came on in the instruments binnacle All fuses and headlight bulb tested OK Can't activate HISS Can anyone give me some idea as to what could cause these conditions?
