  1. Back up for sale. And don't forget, you'll also get the genuine crush washers too, in their own handy little paper bag. Kevin
  2. I've been hanging on to this since totaling my Blackbird awhile back. I don't know, sort of sentimental I guess. But what ever. The Manual is in good shape - just a few finger prints on the edges. Has all the updates and I'll even throw in the 3 or 4 oil drain plug crush washers I just found. $30 plus shipping. Kevin
  3. I just found this. It's my stock XX shock. I had about 9k or 10k miles on it before I removed it and installed a CBR900 shock. If you want it PM me - $30 plus shipping. Kevin
  4. Mine will do what you said if I don't pull up the lever all the way up during the previous gear change.
  5. Well, great. Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I'll be ordering a Pilot Power for the front. In two weeks time I should have fresh fork oil, new tapered steering head bearings and a Pilot Power Maybe I'll put that washer on my shock mount too.....
  6. Has any one tried a Pilot Power on the front with a Pilot Road on back? If so, how do you like it? If not, what do you think?
  7. Along with the usual stuff like tie-wraps, chain lube, a little duct tape.. On my last trip, I took my 22mm and 27mm sockets for chain adjustment. The chain was fairly new and a couple thousand miles into my trip it did needed a little tightening. I stopped at an auto garage in a small town, bummed a breaker bar, ratchet and torque wrench. Fixed her up, returned the tools with many thanks, and rode on my merry way.
  8. +1 I've had to adjust mine since they were almost falling off and allowing the tail cowl to rub on the tail light. Probably should re-glue them or something.
  9. Here's where I got my springs and vavles http://www.racetech.com/
  10. Uh oh, sorry, I don't know. They are socket head and a 5 mm allen fits it. But the bolt size? I don't know. I pulled them from my "Lucky Bin." You know, when you need a fastener or something and it's late and you've run out of all your POS Honda push pins, that aren't broken, and you don't have the proper fasteners so you rumage through the "Lucky Bin." I got lucky! They were small and round...and shiney and metric..and they even fit the fairing holes. I put a flat washers and split lock washers on too!
  11. +1 I hate those POS pins. I have replaced the bottom most ones, under the chin, with bolts. The upper ones have maybe one or two times left in them. Time to order some. I thinks Jaws has them in a bag of ten. I went with the straight rate Race Tech front springs, Gold valves and rebound valves. I am very pleased.
  12. I did the 900RR shock swap. I'm reasonably happy with it. It's better than the stock BB shock and it's adjustable. But I did have some trouble finding a higher rate spring. At 300 lbs you will need one. I weigh about 160 lbs with gear and the 900RR's (15kg, IIRC) spring was too soft for even me. When I did my shock, Race Tech no longer carried the stiffer 16 kg spring that was being used by other forum members. They offered a special order 16.1kg/900lb Eibach spring. Once I got it in hand, I saw it was shorter than the stock spring. Race Tech agreed to take the spring back but they said it should still work. It did work, once I put about 5/8th of an inch of shims between the spring and the top perch. I do like the shock, but the cost of the used shock, plus the spring, plus the rebuild, plus the pain in the ass, I recommend going after market. Ohlins, Wilburs, Penske. If you do go for the 900RR shock, investigate the spring options before you commit. I'm thinking you're gonna need a much higher spring rate than 900 lbs. I've heard of 1000lbs and maybe even 1100lbs. Check with Race Tech.
  13. Yes, Tim, thanks for the pics. I'm gonna break out my manual and follow along. I just might do this myself, should Hell ever freeze over again, of course. Thanks very much.
  14. +1 This just may be past the limits of my wrenching skills. Unless you do that write up with the big tit 19 yr old. Preferably a female.
  15. Yes. I've heard it described as marbles banging around in there. Described mine exactly. Comes from the right side. YMMV, but after about 7k mile on my new, two dot CCT, I am begining to hear it again. Whatever. I've never heard of any type of serious failure. Just noisy is all.
  16. +1 As I recall, my 02 does have a tee on this vent/drain hose. This hose connects to the tee, then one leg drains down beneath the engine and the other leg just lays above the transmission for a vent.
  17. I like the Roads too. But still can't decide whether I like them better than the Avon 45/46. The Avons were good tires (had one set on so far). I liked them a lot. It seems to me they don't grip as well in the wet as the Roads do. Also I'd heard of 8k and 10k out of the Avon rear but I only got about 5.5 - similar to the mileage I get on the Roads. The tire feed back, dry grip, heated grip , cold grip, braking, acel, I haven't been able to decide between the 45/46 and the Roads. Both good tires, can't go wrong, IMHO.
  18. +1 I had thought I didn't need an electric vest because it was my hands and feet that got cold, not my torso. I learned that the body starves the extremities of the warming blood flow when the torso gets cold and needs to retain its heat. Keep the torso warm and the extremities get the blood flow and stay warm too. Makes a huge difference.
  19. +1 And I have the CBR900 conversion. Much better than stock, tho. And I did have the thing rebuilt, recharged, etc. I spent about $105 for the used shock. About $150 for the rebuild. About $165 for the Eibach. Totals $420? Cheaper than Ohlins, yes, but hell, bite the bullet, save up the cash and go Wilbers, Ohlins or some after market. I DID have to screw around about the spring rate and add shims and finally got it right enough, even with bags.
  20. Yes, I do think the stock pads bite initially better when wet than the EBC HH. I went from Atlanta (my home) to Wisconsin, then Montana, then New Mexico, then back home. 5500 miles,... I think. 13 days. I've got some soft saddle bags, I don't even know the name. Got them cheap from a friend. I want the Givi set, and the Ohlins shock, and the Spiegler lines, and the HID, and the heated grips, and a ThrottleMiester, and.........in due time.
  21. I like the EBC pads, although they don't bite that hard when wet. But the biggest improvement I've ever made has been to upgrade the suspension. Racetech springs and valves up front and I went with the CBR900RR shock with a heavier Eibach spring. Will probably go with Ohlins in back when I get the cash although I'm not totally unhappy with the 900 shock. Still its an improvement over the BB stock shock.
  22. I've locked mine. Might have to do with the EBC HH pads back there. I don't think I ever did it with the stock pads.
  23. Texhoss, FWIW, my clutch begins engaging at the last one inch of lever travel. Alway has, I think. There's no adjustment that I know of for a hydraulic clutch except bleeding.
