All of the weight ratings are pretty crazy on this thing.  The gate can hold 1k.  The tunnel doors fold down as seats and they are 250 each.  Rivian rep laughed and said something about a piggish Harley would even be fine.

holy crap! So the tunnel doors double as seats! That is crazy cool. I would not have thought their tailgate could support 1K pounds. 😲

I'm sure Joe has 15 or 20 motors in stock, he'll cut you a deal 🤣

Brother, when my FPR went out I had fuel up to the bottom of the throttle body blades and it didn't hurt my motor.  Roll it outside, pull the plastics, plugs, tarp it up, and crank up Old Faithful and see how high the fuel shoots in the air 😁  Don't do what I did and do that in the shop where it hit the ceiling.

Does a carb bird have an FPR? I don’t recall my carb bikes having one, just my FI birds. I immediately thought FPR when he mentioned hydro locked. Been there with a VFR and had a bird with a case full of super unleaded.

Go to a STAMP show... and UNLOAD !  Done.

+1, like a gun show, but probably more nerdy than a Star Wars/Cosplay con.

I went to a large stamp show year before last. Maybe it was the wrong one. LOL. An old guy asked me, "Do you have any friends who collect stamps?"  When he replied he explained stamp collectors were dying out. We sold two boxes for $500, but ironically they didn't really want the stamps, but the post cards they were affixed to. I think collectors are like porn hounds, they each have a weird, different kind of kink. I need to find the right show or the right collector and make them take everything.

My dad had cigar boxes full of Zeppelin airship Stamps, not sure where those ended up, but I saw some of them listed from $800 to $1500 each.

Like, how did you get started with listing an item that needs this service?

I have 17 boxes of stamps my dad collected…ready to burn them or toss them in the landfill, but they have value which is annoying as it is a limiting factor in getting rid of them.  Wish he had collected coins or guns….stamps of the world.

...aaaand the Excursion batteries are at 1.5 volts.

First person to say "rat lives matter" gets a free overdose of Coumadin in their beer at the next meet.

Motherfucker sure is an overachiever.  Ima be as diligent in fixing his shit as he was in parting these wires.

‘Might need to slip some flexible metal conduit over those during the fix. Darn motivated rat.

I just don't wear watches anymore.  I love them, I just don't wear them.  I never had a really good watch - an entry-level Breitling quartz for a while.  Seems a shame for a nice watch like that Tag to just sit in a case in a closet, I entirely get the sentiment that it deserves to get worn by someone.

    +1

I love watches and am brutally cruel to them, forgetting to take them off when changing oil, etc. my EDC is a 33 year old Seiko Automatic. My Tag and nicer watches rest in drawers so they aren’t scratched and come out for special occasions, then I forget to put them on and old trusty Seiko gets to go to the gala.

As Oscar said not driving the nice car or wearing the fancy watch to “save it for the next guy…is like having a beautiful female partner and …..” 😂

Gorgeous watch Dave, good luck with the sale.

  7. I have about 10 of them, all different makes and models....from $9.95 to over a $135....I "think" the el cheapo one may have cooked my DRZ battery a few years ago as I don't think it knows how to "float".

Your old one is probably just fine.

This is my favorite model as shows voltage and percentage of charge.

She said book value is $6k but that she didn't think she'd get it with the problems it has so I offered her the 5.  She got back to me yesterday and said she needs to give her mom $7k for it, I'm considering it, but it's less attractive at 7.  Odd that book is so low, even normal TJs on CL are listed well above that.

It's got a few issues, but probably still worth it.  Just over 100k miles.  The paint is ratty, but the body is pretty good.  It's kinda silver/gold-ish color.  A while back she had the grill and cowl painted dark green and got green pin striping which is now faded, some of the factory paint is shot.  Interior looks great, tho I didn't poke deep into it.  It's a low optioned model, no power amenities, no tow package.  Tires are nearly done.  A few leaks that are fairly easy to fix.  The two questionable problems are the A/C and a fault for the torque converter clutch.  The TCC fault might be a simple wiring problem or a trans. out repair.  The A/C appears to be a leak by her description, but don't know.  She paid $2k a while back to get it working and said it didn't last.  The trans is my main concern, if it needs a rebuild that would eat up a lot of the value.

‘First, I’ve never seen “book” buy a car, it’s a guide for a reason. Shame you didn’t take her up on the offer at $6K, no brainer. Wrecking yard trans for $500 would have been ideal. Way less sexy at $7K based on your description.

Last week I helped a friend pick up some TJ Rubicon parts. Front and rear D44 axles with factory lockers, $4100 and the 241 Rubicon case 4:1 low gear ration cost him $2100. Guy imports rust buckets from Michigan and parts them in Seattle. He had an auto tranny for $500 and a complete motor for $600. We picked out a digital rear view mirror with temp and compass for $40.  I pullee an aftermarket front bumper for $20.

The Jeep I might buy has BFG ATs, luckily they're worn out.

'05 LJ that came to have me check the leaking oil drain plug today.  She said KBB was $6K but didn't think she could get that much because of the various stuff it needs so I offered her $5k.

It must be super clapped? I don’t think I’ve ever seen an LJ under $10K up here.

Really like the XX in white

I loved my white XX, (Joe’s was the inspiration). Hard to see but in the sun the blue pearl metal flake from crushed glass was exquisite.

  12. +1 on Never Dull. It is tedious but years ago I brought back a Honda Trail 110 or CT110 with tons of rust scales on it. Get a fresh new can, and try using the bottom of a rounded Craftsman handled or similar screwdriver while pushing down on the wadding against the wheel lip. Worked like a charm. Then again I had two prepubescent boys to do the work while I drank beer and barked out orders like, “press harder”. My oldest son still has that bike. He pulled the motor, split the case and resealed the whole god damn thing…I created a monster.

Hadn't thunk of that, great idea.  If it does loosen it maybe a plastic scraper will get the chunky stuff off.  I tried it dry and the plastic just wasn't quite hard enough to make it happen.

  13. I just scored a two knife Milwaukee combo set at the local shop for $19, one has a screwdriver on it.

I also have a Kobalt folder I like as it has a slot onboard for extra blades, but Molly stole that one.

Not seeing it on quick search but it is a folder as well. My buddy went hunting in Africa and game them out as gifts to all the guide’s helpers.

So those of you who may have used old tools, or you geriatrics who have upgraded, do you have any insights?  Are new are tools that much more powerful than the vintage ones?

‘Couple years back I added a Husky 1/2” air impact to the box, it claimed 600 ft pounds. It is way more impressive than my other older, air impacts. I need to do some tests, but my cordless 1/2” DeWalt impact gets down and does work. Used to be my corded 1/2” Milwaukee was the tool when the older air powered impacts couldn’t get it done…not so sure anymore. I love tools and have 6 or so impacts of various corded, cordless, and air power.

‘’When I built the shop I ran 3/4” pex in the wall to my 8- gallon air compressor. No complaints.
